together; a whole new world consciousness is being 
created. Do you know the Beatles are using music 
from India, sitar music from India?” and at that 
point they had used it three years before, and 
everyone who wrote about pop music had 
commented on this, and the Beatles had gone to 
India and had been photographed with the 
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and it was all a part of 
culture, of the common discourse of mass culture, 
and Marshall had just heard it. And you realized 
when you heard that, that Marshall didn’t read 
much of the mass press, and he doesn’t watch 
much television. He never watched much television.
